Thin Wall Molding

Thin wall molding is a specialized form of conventional injection molding that focuses on mass-producing plastic parts that are thin and light, without structural compromise, in order to achieve material cost savings and shorter cycle times. Faster cycle times improve productivity and lead to lower costs per part.

The definition of thin wall is really about the size of the part compared to its wall thickness. For any particular plastic part, as the wall thickness is reduced, the harder it is to manufacture using the injection molding process. The size of a part puts a limit on how thin the wall thickness can be. For packaging containers, thin wall means wall thicknesses that are less than 0.025 inch (0.62mm) with a flow length to wall thickness ratio greater than 200.

In-Mold Labelling (IML)

In-mold labelling is a popular method of decorating injection molded parts for plastic packaging, consumer electronics, and other products. Computer, cellphone, and automobile manufacturers are increasingly adopting IML technology for its functionality, appearance, and greater wear resistance compared to spray painting or pad-printing. In automated, high speed production environments, IML can provide better decorating options than other manufacturing methods.




Long, slender valve gate nozzles enable gating through the core side of the mold by providing enough space for effective core cooling in thin wall IML applications, resulting in extremely fast cycle times.

Thin wall injection molding does not only apply to lightweight food packaging.
